Parallel Taxiway Construction Begins At The Griffith-Merrillville Airport

Construction of a new parallel taxiway began at the Airport on August 17, 2011. This project will create a full parallel taxiway from the ramp area to the east end of runway 26 and a partial parallel taxiway from the west end of runway 08 to approximately mid-field. The taxiway will be lighted and have reflectors installed. This project will help to eliminate back taxiing on the runway and will be a vital safety enhancement for the Airport. Construction should be completed by mid-November 2011. The final connection of the runway 08 taxiway is scheduled under the Airports Capital Improvement Program plan in the near future.
